This is, quite simply, one of Bourdain’s best-ever entries from his time at the helm of No Reservations. I have always preferred to watch a well-travelled, never-short-on-words host visit a place he’s never been before – there’s no time to be cynical or professional, and you just get to watch him (or her) discovering Croatia for the first time like you’d discover Croatia for the first time.
It’s still one of Europe’s least well-known spots, even though it must seem like any or all of your friends have made their way there in the past five or 10 years.
Still, to the desiring traveller, Croatia isn’t Italy. It’s not France. It’s not even Spain or Germany. It’s got plenty of time to reach its peak – but let’s just hope it stays untouched, for its sake and ours.
